General

What is Vortyk?

Vortyk is a field photo documentation and reporting platform for inspectors and field teams. You capture geotagged photos, organize them into projects and surveys, generate professional PDF photo log reports, and share them with clients. All from your browser.

What devices does Vortyk support?

The web app works on any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). It's optimized for desktop and tablet and fully mobile-responsive.

Is there a mobile app?

Vortyk works in mobile browsers today. Native iOS and Android apps are on the roadmap.


Photos

What photo formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and WebP.

What's the max file size?

20 MB per photo.

What if my photo doesn't have GPS data?

It will be flagged for review so you know the location data is missing. You can still upload and use the photo. It just won't appear on the interactive map.

How many photos can I upload per survey?

Up to 200 photos per survey. If you need more, split your work across multiple surveys within the same project.


Reports

What format are reports?

PDF. Every report is a professional photo log with your photos, captions, GPS coordinates, and metadata.

Can I customize report branding?

Yes. Your name, company name, and email appear on all reports automatically (pulled from your Profile Settings). Enterprise users get white-label templates with organization branding.

Do markups appear in reports?

Yes. Any annotations you've added to photos. Arrows, rectangles, text, circles. Show up on the photos in your generated reports.


Billing

Is there a free trial?

Yes. 14 days with full Pro access. Credit card required at signup. See Free Trial for details.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Month-to-month billing, no long-term contracts. Cancel from the Billing Portal and your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

How do storage add-ons work?

Purchase additional storage bundles from the Billing Portal. They stack on top of your plan's included storage. See Storage Add-ons for pricing.


Sharing

Do clients need a Vortyk account?

No. Clients access shared projects through a password-protected link. No signup or account required.

Yes. Revoke any link instantly from the project's sharing settings. The client loses access immediately.


Security

Is my data secure?

Yes. Vortyk uses row-level security at the database level, encrypted passwords (bcrypt), JWT authentication, signed URLs with time-limited access, and input validation on every API endpoint. See Security for the full overview.

Where is data stored?

Hosted on secure cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. Photos are stored with signed URLs that expire after one hour, so direct file access is always time-limited.
